1 thing you should know about Twitter

There are many “pro’s” to public mediums such as Twitter, but if there’s one thing I don’t like about it it’s this. In 140 characters or less people seem to believe that theirs is the best and often only opinion that matters. Especially in regard to parenting. They feel free to laugh and jeer at toilet training disasters (even the ones a Twitterist didn’t intend to be funny) and question seemingly minor parenting decisions. You don’t even have to be following them to cop the backlash! In fact, this is the kind of interaction I object to.

Don’t get me wrong here, if I’ve asked for your opinion absolutely feel free to give it, but, if I’m not following you (and vice versa) and you’ve never even said “Boo” to me before. It may be best to control your loud, typing fingers. Most of you will have noticed, parenting isn’t a cut and dry situation. Certain things will work for one child and not for others. In fact, this is even true of siblings! This brings me to my point.

If there’s one thing you need to know about Twitter it’s this. As with blogging, perhaps even more so, you only see a portion of what a Twitterist is about. You wont necessarily know just from tweets if someone’s child has special needs, delays or is ill. You don’t know what specific circumstances have brought a parent to make a certain decision. Something that may seem silly and ill thought out to you may not be.

Beyond that, sniggering is really not the best way to make friends and, after all, isn’t that what Twitter is all about?

    Oh dear.

    1. I hope that wasn’t me.
    2. If it was, am sorry.
    3. If it wasn’t am sorry anyhow, nobody should feel that they are being judged in 140 characters or less.
    4. Karma will come to bite them on the behind
    5. Hugs.

I haven’t had anyone judging me on twitter but then I am not it as much as I would like.
I am sorry too you have been judged or criticised…like anything else we are just doing the best we can with the cards we have been dealt.
We play the game our own way and sometimes people either don’t like it or don’t play fair.
    yes hugs and karma.

I know it wasn’t me because I am an abysmal Twitterer … or it that Tweeter?

But I am sorry that you’ve had to deal with that stuff.

Amazing how something like that can hurt or annoy so much isn’t it? The pen/keyboard certainly is mightier than the sword.
